There is a level of insanity about it all …… how can you ever deny climate change?

I’ve just read a headline predicting an “extraordinary” Atlantic hurricane season, with 17 to 25 named storms possible. Living where I do I dread violent weather. I’ve started replacing the phrase “climate change” with “weather shock,” and it’s happening all over. Fires and flood should be included in “weather.”

A great idea to call it ‘weather shock’ – you may have heard of the violent air turbulence that hit a plane near Bangkok – also a consequence of weather shock!

I did read of the turbulence incident. My theory on the terminology is that persons who hate the word “climate” can’t claim they don’t have “weather”!

Yes that’s a really good strategy – some time ago it seemed that ‘global warming’ morphed into the less threatening ‘climate change’ but as you note it now needs to become ‘weather shock’. It’s depressing that we have to dance around the terminology rather than face up to the fact.

Well observed, Sue. It’s almost a progress toward euphemism. Tornadoes and hurricanes may come to be called “air disturbances”!

Yes! By the way I hope you were not affected by the recent ‘air disturbances’ in Texas?

Ooh, your comment is very pertinent, Sue. The freakish high winds and drenching rains were to the east of me, but quite close to my children in the Houston area. They incurred no damage, but downtown Houston experienced 100-mph winds which blew out windows in high buildings. Unlike hurricanes the storm gave little prior warning. We took a direct hit from Hurricane Harvey in 2017. I can do without more “weather” of this ilk!
