The Madman Helming the Solo Voyage

Oil on paper, acrylic faux frame.

When at sea / directionless / approach the / Unexpected
(Cheyenne McMasters)

The madman helming the solo voyage
steers by the seat of his cargo shorts.
His jury-rigged bark breasts the swells
and he clutches the tiller with white knuckles.

The madman waves to crews that cast him
pitying looks from well appointed vessels,
mimes their offers of assistance with a shrug,
pointing northwards, flashing a jaunty victory sign.

The madman helming the solo voyage,
he knows, he does, one only thing, which is:
“I’ve got this.” He’s been told by one who knows.
That simple knowing blows him where he goes.

About JMN

I live in Texas and devote much of my time to easel painting on an amateur basis. I stream a lot of music, mostly jazz, throughout the day. I like to read and memorize poetry.
