I Have Me a Cat

Name of Midnight. He’s a smoldering coal,
Cat afire. Icicles of burnt sienna
Prickle his inkiness. Cheeky usurper
Of this enterprise which is myself
Has a preternatural luster to him.
Wish I’d named him Buckminster or Trajan.
I’m only half serious when I say
Dude has the chassis of a Stutz Bearcat.
How front-and-hind-leg synchrony ensue
In the matter of his ambulating
Is an anatomical miracle!
More to the point: He wears his stud endowment
Where nature put it, opposite his head.
For him they travel in the same direction,
A lesson often lost on the usurped.

About JMN

I live in Texas and devote much of my time to easel painting on an amateur basis. I stream a lot of music, mostly jazz, throughout the day. I like to read and memorize poetry.
