“Appeals court tells Texas it cannot ban books for mentioning ‘butt’ and ‘fart’”
(Maya Yang, The Guardian, 6-9-24)
In a report released last October [2023], the American Library Association found that Texas made the most attempts in the US to ban or restrict books in 2022. In total, the state made 93 attempts to restrict access to more than 2,300 books…
In the case adjudicated by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals on June 6, 2024, books sought to be banned had been referred to as “pornographic filth.”

Oh dear – how depressing to read of this attempt to censor books when there is the internet out there with any amount of “pornographic filth”!!
btw I hope you have survived the latest hurricane?

Good point about the internet, Sue. These book banning crusades spring from muddy waters. Hurricane Beryl missed my location by a fluke while clobbering points east. That was a relief, but there’s a long season ahead, and Gulf waters are at 90 degrees, which is roughly bath water temperature. High octane fuel for the storms! Greetings to you there from here.

Glad to hear you were missed by Hurricane Beryl, Jim. I hope you get through the rest of the hurricane season unscathed – not sure your political season will leave anyone unscathed! Cheers.

There’s heavy weather in the offing all over the place, Sue. Trim sail and steer close to the wind. Or something like that. My nautical analogies are rusty! 🙂
